Life in BEL - Bangalore Complex (BGCX)
At Bangalore, there is an elaborate BEL Officers’ Club (BEOC) for executives which houses a kickass restaurant, 2 pool tables, well maintained swimming pool, a sports complex with squash, TT, Badminton courts, a HUGE ground, etc. I don’t think you get that in any private company in Bangalore. All this for a nominal membership fee of Rs 25/month.Image: BEL Officers’ Club - the lush green lawn.
You get to be around jawans and Officers of the Indian Armed forces at least once in a month, and like it or not, if you are pretty dedicated at what you are doing the army discipline slowly starts creeping in.
Technically, provided you are in a reasonably good department, you have the opportunity and freedom to do a lot of thinks unlike what people make it out to be. People often blame PSUs that “ye sarkari naukri he..isme acha kaam nahi milta hai”. The exposure you get is entirely unique and you can never get that in any other company outside.
Working in BEL is an opportunity one should never miss.
Some FAQ
- How is the work pressure in software engineer division in BEL(deputy engineer, EII and above) for permanent position? Are there any deadlines for completing work?
There is a lot of work pressure in the product qualification and testing phase. Yes, there are deadlines !! They will be tied with your work and promotions. - How many productive hours of work will be there daily and and is it working on Saturdays too?
BEL is a 6-day working week and a 8-hour day. But, there is always work and you end up staying late to complete the assigned work. - Is the CTC that they mentioned too much compared to monthly salary that you get?
No, it is only marginally (10–15%) higher. It is the common facilities, recreational and activity areas and privileges that BEL executives enjoy ! So, it is not too much.
